ART, SCIENCE and GARDENING?
You may feel the link between art, science and gardening is a tenuous one. You may also feel that this is no new idea. The truth is both! My intent is to provide a helpful guide which can help you create the environment to experience great living! This is no joke. I have been pursuing the ideal art form since I attended the Kansas City Art Institute in 85. The form, I learned was tied to my participation in the process. Steel, Bronze, Clay, Handmade Paper, Graphic Design, Printmaking, process and more process. I quickly learned that the wonder of art is in the creating rather than in the object created...not a big concept, simply that creative process could potentially be unified with living patterns as a daily process.NATURE and NURTURE
The epitomy of my personal artistic values reguarding art always seemed to resonate with the concepts of nature and nurture. Nature vs. Nurture is the established compliments of life, that is the struggle in thought about the motivations of life itself - nature as an external immutable force or nurture as the adaptive response. This can be paralled to the basic divisions of religion and science, and as applied to philosopy of art, creates a dichotomy between the creator and the thing created. While I do encourage individuals to pursue knowledge of art and craft process, the focus of this site is obviously on gardening as a vehicle to unite the creators and the creations. Nature nurtures nature.... Gardening or better yet Art Farming is the experiencial creative medium which through nurturing, nurtures the creator naturally! Art Farming is a beautiful circular process of knowledge and experience, the product, a edible source of wonder!
ART FARMING
Preparation including material lists, specifications, locations, logistics, budgets, schedules and much more are imperative to effective execution of a creative process. Creativity can be facilitated with an exstensive database of information to draw upon. Expanding the potential options when problem solving, expands the potential creatve solution. This means often learning about basic chemical processes or possibly discoveries in other fields such as physics and biology. It is also important to have fun, relax and engage the all the senses.YOU ARE THE FIRST PIONEER
Reguardless of how much you read and research, one of the most exciting aspects of Art Farming (gardening) is the uniqueness of the individual experience. Every location, even the house next door, is completely different from all others. Physical orientation of structures, local fluctuations in climate and micro-climates are everywhere. PH can change from one side of the house to the other. Each new planting is a new experience and so intuitve response is always necessary.LEARN as much as you can AND then FORGET everything, simply engage the site you plan to work with. Listen to the sounds, discover the insects which thrive, search out animals, watch the water flow across a site in the rain - Get into the site, sleep there naked if you have to, but try and understand the landscape like your trying to understand the soft wispers of your greatgrandmother whose last faint word hold the key to the safty deposit box which contains you and all you offsprings inheritance.
As this site develops I will include a gallery of art devoted to garden and landscape, ecology and exchange. Thank you for visiting my green guide.
